The image of the doomsday clock is an apt metaphor for the film adaptation of Watchmen (* * out of four).
Over the course of two decades, several celebrated directors were involved with some version of the movie, from Terry Gilliam to Darren Aronofsky to Paul Greengrass.
As the film bounced from one studio to another, a host of actors, including Tom Cruise and Jude Law, expressed interest in roles. Some, including Hilary Swank and Joaquin Phoenix, signed on early but left with the change of directors. Lucky for them.

The irony seeps through the cinema with the sulphurous whiff of Mephistopheles. Watchmen is a frame-by-frame adaptation of Alan Moore's landmark 1980s graphic novel. Moore's guiding script to artist Dave Gibbons all those years ago is the storyboard for director Zack Snyder's re-enactment of the comic-book geek's sacred text. Nearly every line of dialogue comes from Alan Moore's pen, albeit surgically removed from its original setting and transplanted into a 21st century superhero movie.

lol. just enjoy the movie, people! don't take out the joy of it. try to analyze the idea for just a second. There are deeper issues in this movie than costumes and transparent boners.
This film was absolute rubbish and did nothing but bring shame to the Watchmen. The comics were epic and I looked forward to this for ages only to be let down. The soundtrack was the only thing I actually enjoyed.
Three hours of super hero sex, blue penis, perhaps three noteworthy action scenes and maybe, if you stretch it, two scenes worthy of comedic note. I wasted money to see this rubbish in the cinema, and then, out of hope, tried to give it a second chance here only to find it was even worse than I first thought. Those who are saying how great it was are obviously easily pleased by special effects and girls in latex.
Also, how can you say they "did a great job portraying the characters" if you haven't read the comics? FACEPALM.
can't believe anyone thought this was gonna be your typical super hero flick, HUH?? haven't we had a billion of those already? I thought it was about time some director (Zack Snyder, 300, Dawn of the Dead remake) would finally make an adult serious film about a comic, not Tommy Lee Jones playing Two-Face and hopping around like the Joker, but a comic based movie were the characters actually ACT like the characters they are based off of, well this is the closest one I've seen besides Swamp Thing 9/10
