Terrible
I found this awful....i kept thinking about the fantastic original film, i couldn't help it because the storyline was pretty much copied. The actors were very unconvincing and i didn't care what happened to them (unlike Shelly Winters in the original), the script was very basic throughout with one liners like 'there must be another way out' or 'quick the waters rising' all said without much conviction, i'm afraid i didn't feel for any of them at all. Very very poor re-make IMO, i wouldn't recommend it unless perhaps you hadn't seen the original.
Poseidon is a sodden saga, with a script that is awash in clich??s. It nearly drowns under the weight of its own soggy tedium.
The sole reason to see it, if you must, is for the special effects and stunts. And even those eventually grow numbing with the constant barrage of roiling flood water, fiery explosions, hurtling bodies and gruesome deaths.
What a contrast with a true disaster epic like United 93 where the hideous outcome was understated and, therefore that much more poignant and devastating.
Of course this is the re-make of the 1972 original, with the notable addition of state-of the-art computer generated imagery. Even without th...
Let's just say that Wolfgang Petersen's remake of Irwin Allen's 1972 disaster classic The Poseidon Adventure rings more bells than Quasimodo at noon, and all you hear is a knell. The movie is set on a luxury liner sailing for New York from parts unmentioned, but it doesn't amount to much more than a prison escape movie on high seas.
Supposedly, the film's back story was cut to a nub because it wasn't playing. Or maybe Petersen and writer Mark Protosevich didn't play with it enough before sailing, and it died of neglect. More than characters, dialogue and lighting, here Petersen is interested exclusively in suspense of the will-he-or-won't-he-be-crushed-by...
Just watched it for the first time...it was great and yeah, a great cast also. It was also messed up that they were the ONLY ones that lived. Overall, great movie!
This was a very good movie, but the acting and directing could have been done much better. A nice watch when you are at home and want a little action/drama.
