When his partner is killed by the mysterious and possibly nonexistent Jaguar Shark, Steve Zissou and his Team Zissou crew set off for an expedition to hunt down the creature. Along with his estranged wife, a beautiful journalist and a co-pilot who could possibly be Zissou's son, the crew set off for one wild expedition.
Magnificent
I am a huge fan of Wes Anderson and my biggest concern about this film was that the weight of my expectation would be too much. Thankfully I was wrong. I loved The Life Aquatic I was mesmerized by the stop motion creatures and the set designs were spectacular. Anderson creates complete worlds for his dramas to play out and his films are the richer for it. The costumes are at times odd (with the exception of Angelica Huston who looks incredible throughout) but that is part of the charm.
At the heart of this film is Bill Murray, who manages to have the audience forgive his callous disregard for others because of a seemingly insurmountable melancholy. Anderson and Baumbach have crafted a...
Classic Bill Murray
This is a terrific film: vividly imagined with some brilliantly delivered witticisms and great psychedelic imagery. Just what you might expect from Anderson and Murray. If you liked their other films you will love this one. Oh and the cast is awesome too.

Sadly, Murray doesn't have the same edgy energy as Gene Hackman, who played the irresponsible father in Tenenbaums; indeed he's so laid-back he sometimes seems to be asleep. But there...
One of the first generation of 'Saturday Night Live' alumni to make it on the big screen, the early trajectory of Bill Murray's career saw him employing his mastery of comic cynicism as Ghostbusters' Dr Peter Venkman and Groundhog Day's Phil Connors. His 50s have brought a new maturity, demonstrated by his performance as the jaded Bob Harris in Lost In Translation. And he's already clicked with Wes Anderson's idiosyncratic style from his supporting role in The Royal Tenenbaums. It's a shame then, that even with his implicitly amusing persona and increasingly hangdog face, he can't quite bring Steve Zissou to life.
Zissou is an eccentric take on Jacques Cousteau,...
