After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandons his possessions, gave his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life.
An enigmatic young man named Chris McCandless made an indelible impression on any number of people during his short life, and you can now add Sean Penn to the list.
Into the Wild, Penn's film on McCandless' experiences, is a complete change of pace for the writer-director. It's his warmest, most celebratory and most completely realized film and, though you might not guess it from the material, it is also arguably his most personal.
Penn's film, starring a radiant Emile Hirsch, is based on Jon Krakauer's nonfiction book about McCandless, an unusual 24-year-old "possessed of a streak of stubborn idealism that did not mesh readily with modern existe...
In the midst of his rambling journey, starting at 22, Chris McCandless dubbed himself "Alexander Supertramp." But the restless soul at the center of Into the Wild is as much a descendant of Henry David Thoreau as he is a modern hobo.
Into the Wild, a film that explores the incessant wanderlust of Virginia native McCandless, is captivating and multifaceted. Written and directed by Sean Penn, the film is a haunting and moving experience, highlighted by evocative original music by Eddie Vedder.
Anyone who has read Jon Krakauer's fascinating non-fiction best seller upon which the film is based is bound to be satisfied by this cinematic retelling, despi...

It opens your eyes to things you only dream of. [SPOILER]
What the film doesn't tell you is on the dashboard of the ride that dropped him off before the 'magic bus' he left his map
which could of saved his life as there was a hand-operated tram that crossed the river 1/4 of a mile away from where he fell in.
He could of crossed back over.
He has done so much adventurous achievements we couldn't possibly do in a life time without the courage. He truly lived.
