IN THE LOOP is a foul-mouthed comedy that draws on non-specific events to create a world that is terrifyingly familiar: The US President and UK Prime Minister fancy a war, but not everyone agrees that war is a ‘good thing’. US General Miller (James Gandolfini – The Sopranos, The Taking Of Pelham 123) certainly doesn't think so and neither does the British Secretary of State for I... nternational Development, Simon Foster (Tom Hollander – Pirates of the Caribbean, Pride and Prejudice). But when the mild-mannered minister inadvertently appears to back the war on prime-time television, he immediately attracts the attention of the PM’s venomously aggressive communications chief Malcolm Tucker (reprised from The Thick of It by Peter Capaldi), who latches onto him like a hawk. Soon, the Brits are in Washington, where diplomatic relations collide with trans-Atlantic spin doctors and Foster’s off-hand remark quickly spirals into an insurmountable ‘mountain of conflict’.

Despite a pedigree like so many British prestige projects -- award-winning actors and writers, topical subject matter, BBC roots -- In the Loop is no precious show dog. It's a snarling, frothing little beastie straining at its leash.
In fact, when someone in the film uses the word "purview," signature character Malcolm Tucker, the prime minister's communications chief, launches into one of his trademark expletive-laced tirades: "Where do you think you are, in some sort of regency . . . costume drama? This is a government department, not a . . . Jane . . . Austen novel!"
Springing from the acclaimed TV series "The Thick of It," the comedy conc...
In the Loop is an intermittently funny and biting political satire about politicians and their operatives involved in a campaign to promote a war.
Drawing upon Wag the Dog, Dr. Strangelove and This Is Spinal Tap, this sardonic tale is adapted from the critically acclaimed BBC series The Thick of It.
The film features some witty performances from the mostly British ensemble cast, notably Peter Capaldi as Malcolm Tucker, the prime minister's ultra-aggressive communications director whose foul mouth and venomous attitude work in concert and at warp speed.
Tom Hollander also is excellent as Simon Foster, the minister for international development...

If you watched the TV series then a lot of the actors in this film will be familiar and the pace and language won't come as too much of a shock. It's sharp, witty and pacey in style with the most creative swearing I've heard in a long time (well since South Park the movie if I'm honest).
It's easy to see this as merely a movie version of the TV show, but In the Loop stands on its own as a very clever version of real life events from the recent past. If even half of this is true it's terrifying and from reading interviews with Armando Ianucci I suspect that more than half of it is.
Peter Capaldi steals the movie, with Tom Hollander a close second as the i...

A very good political comedy about British and American politics from the BBC network.. This movie revolves around a good story but the acting and comedy really showcase this movie as a really good one.. Many memorable one liners and lots of swearing.. If you think you might enjoy it, give it a watch.. 3.5/5..
This was such a funny film, absolutely brilliant from start to finish. I loved the characters, the comic situations and the obscene language. It all added together to make a very funny and interesting film. I think its probably the best political satire since ''Dr. Strangelove''. I thought it was an outstanding film, would definitely watch it again. 5/5
Like a bunch of chickens all trying to cluck at once..
this movie was so much non stop talking it became more of an annoyance than anything.
just because you make a lot of words, doesn't mean you should use them all.
It's like they were worried that if one second of silence passed, people would realize it wasn't funny.
Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance, but it was giving me a headache.
A Dr Strangelove for the Noughties. Scarily hilarious, has the whiff of awful truth about it. I like Iannucci's work, and it's nice to see his slant on life transfer so successfully to the big screen.
Being a fan of the TV series 'The Thick Of It' I was looking forward to this movie but found it a bit dissapointing. Unlike the TV show, some of the one liners were pretty weak.
