A pair of comic book painters named Holden McNeil and Banky Edwards, who live in New Jersey, have been best friends since 20 years. They spend their time working in their studio, and in the evenings they are going out. But their friendship is about to be disputed for the first time in their life, when a beautiful young lesbian woman named Alyssa Jones enters their life and Holden falls in love wi... th her. Kevin Smith Gets A Bit More Serious
This film while having it's undeniable Kevin Smith moments is the most serious film he has made to date, and is none the worse for it. The story of a man chasing a lesbian turns out to be really quite moving with Ben Affleck and Joey Lauren Adams giving impressive performances as the two lovers in question. Jason Lee plays to the more typical Kevin Smith type as the cynical wisecracking Banky but his motivations are also delved into. Overall yet another great movie by Mr Smith, he doesn't seem to be capable of making bad ones!
The total antithesis of the usual rom-com
Chasing Amy is a film which has arguably no more an adventurous plot than 'boy meets girl, boy gets girl, boy loses girl.' However, in Chasing Amy, Writer and director Kevin Smith uses his special blend of off-beat characters, clever humor, and engaging dialogue to turn a simple romantic comedy into a complex, intelligent, thought provoking, and very original take on love, friendship, and the wages of jealousy. The much underrated Jason Lee is nothing short of superb and Ben Affleck gives a performance he has never since bettered. The total antithesis of the usual dreary run of the mill rom-com, Chasing Amy is a must see movie.
