In Denmark, A.D. 507, the realm of King Hrothgar is threatened by the tormented demon Grendel that attacks the locals in their celebrations. The Danish king offers a reward for the death of the creature, attracting to Herot the brave Geet warrior Beowulf that seeks for glory. After a fierce battle, Beowulf defeats the demon and after receiving an old relic as reward, he finds his men slaughtered ... in the party saloon of the castle. King Hrothgar advises that the Grendel's mother was the responsible for the bloodshed and Beowulf chases her in the lake where she lives. The creature takes the form of a seductive woman and seduces Beowulf with a promise of becoming an invincible and wealthy king if he makes love to her and gives his golden relic to her. Beowulf The ancient Anglo-Saxon epic comes into the digital age. Robert Zemeckis directs from a lively script by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avery. Ray Winstone voices the hero
Funny, exciting, earthy, saucy and visually remarkable, this modern interpretation of an old text is enjoyable and fascinating cinema. Though it must be pointed out that what you make of Beowulf may depend on how you experience it.
The film's optimum incarnation is as 3D digital IMAX, the whopping screen and optical trickery bringing the film's fully digital world to life in astonishing form. For its 2007 theatrical release, it will also show in standard 3D digital, digital 2D and dear old 3...
It was way too gory and violent. From the very first scene it was just disgusting. I hated every moment of it and only stayed to watch it because we had paid to watch it at the cinema.
GO LARGE WIF IT
SAW THIS IN 3-D AND CAN ONLY SAY ITS AWESOME TO LOOK AT - BIT GORY FOR THE YOUNG UN'S THOUGH BUT A VISUAL EXPERIENCE NOT TO BE MISSED, ONLY 2 CRITICISMS RAY WINSTONE WAS JUSTA BIT TOO LONDON FOR ME AND ALTHOUGH THE ANIMATION WAS SUPERB THROUGHOUT THEY STILL CANT DO HORSES PROPERLY - A COUPLE OF MINOR FLAWS THAT DO LITTLE TO SPOIL AN EXCELLENT MOVIE - GO SEE IT ESPECIALLY IN 3-D IF U CAN
different, was it animation? i liked this; the story was good, close to the saga in ways. the acting seemed stiff, i think the lack of fine expression was exagerated by the lifelike characters, 4/5
This movie looks amazing, and it has in some scenes good writing, and at points this movie feels like a true epic. But I didn't really got involved in this movie from the start, and there were a couple dull and a rather slow moments. And I think that none of the characters were developed that well, there wasn't a single character that I really cared about. Overall a decent movie, it had potential to be great but IMO it failed at achieving that.
