With the game-changing, magnificent visual spectacle that is Avatar (*** out of four), writer/director James Cameron can be crowned king of the virtual world.
But he still needs to hire a screenwriter. For all the grandeur and technical virtuosity of the mythical 3-D universe Cameron labored for years to perfect, his characters are one-dimensional, rarely saying anything unexpected.
But for much of the movie, that hardly matters. The scenes in Pandora a planet with an Earth-like environment are so breathtaking that the narrative seems almost beside the point.
The first sight of this exotic paradise may rival the seminal scene in The Wizar...
Also, great HD effects but it was a little too much for my dinosaur (AKA computer) to handle so it glitched alot for fullscreen so i had to open a nw window and stretch the image but w/e, still worth the watch. Could not have been any better.
Everyone around me kept saying how AMAZING this movie is! So finally, after WAY too long, I saw it. ..ehm.
I don't want to say I was disappointed, because many aspects of the film were brilliant.. BUT because of the HYPE I expected it to be..more.
I watched this with a friend and maybe I was in the wrong mood. Because some scenes just made me laugh [SPOILER]
(the ritual scene, in which Grace is dying and they all "pray" for Eywa to save her.)
and some scenes just didn't hold my attention.
For a first time look, I must say: amazing animation (came SO close to reality, especially their faces), action was excited and well, the storyline was nothing special, but it worked well in this film.
Worth the watch, go to the theater, watch it in 3D/IMAX, but go without expectations and you will be blown away.
PS also take as much food with you as you can.
PPS dont go with someone who keeps falling asleep every half hour XD
i always thought the hype about it was too over the top..but i watched the movie today in 3d and woow i was blown away. as a media student i think james cameron did an amazing job by taking cgi into a whole new level. Definately the best movie ever..movie had a very good story line as well as the message behind it..definately worth a watch..maybe twice hehe^^
This movie was great! It may not be for everybody but if you enjoy watching any kind of fantasy films this movie is for you. The creativity of this movie is awesome. Im a avid movie watcher and i have found that movies these days are over hyped and pretty crappy. I didnt expect much from this but i was totally into it whithin the first 20 minutes. 5/5 for me and i would watch a sequal providing it had the same actors and such. I also think it has something for everybody, action,love story, scifi, ect ect.
