Never before has a date in history been so significant to so many cultures, so many religions, scientists, and governments. "2012" is an epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.
2012 Roland Emmerich ups the ante on the disaster movie, trashing the entire globe even more comprehensively than he did in The Day After Tomorrow. John Cusack stars alongside some amazing CGI
Back in 1996, we were impressed when the then nascent art of CGI enabled filmmakers to throw a few vehicles and livestock around in Twister. Just a dozen years later, it can be deployed to realistically as to chuck entire cities into the sea. We say "realistically", but this is still a Roland Emmerich movie and the main thrust isn't realism, it's the rollercoaster ride. This is cinema as spectacle pure and simple. And it works - the screening we attended featured the ...
Nor is the epic nature of the cataclysm left wanting as the mayhem is dialed up to massive proportions in this end-of-days extravaganza.
The movie is an undeniable visual spectacle, but just as unequivocally a cheesy, ridiculous story.
Computer-generated scenes of the world falling apart are both impressive and ludicrous. We see such iconic images as the Washington Monument toppling, Rio de Janeiro's Christ...
The notion of playing God is implicit in the job of a film director, and rarely has the sense of a wrathful, vengeful deity at the helm, albeit a pagan one, been so comprehensively felt as in 2012. This simultaneously spectacular and risible concoction looks likely to trigger a worldwide B.O. tsunami for Sony.
Hooking their doomsday scenario on an interpretation of a Mayan calendar that points to an earthly catastrophe in 2012 -- specifically on 12-21-12 (what movie wi...
this was such a drag. seemed like another one of those movies put out to pump fear into people. but its expected. whenever something is "said to happen" movies are created and release near those "times of drastic change"
This movie is incredible. It really pulls you in. It really questions humanity and what would we do in this situation. It visually stunning. 10/10 I love it.
